Machu Picchu!!

Katie and Carrie at Machu Picchu

Dad, Katie and I were able to go to Machu Picchu for the day!  It was such an incredible view of the old, lost Incan city.  What a breath-taking view of this city.  It's so hard to believe that the Incas built this entire city out of rocks.  It was really interesting learning more about the history of the city.  This is the most famous sight in all of South America, and is one of the Seven Wonders of the World.  Machu Picchu was discovered in 1911 by Hiram Bingham, an explorer, professor and archaeologist who was the leader of the Yale Peruvian Scientific Expedition.  MP was left in such good condition because it was never found by the Spanish.  The city looked exactly like the pictures on the internet!

Katie and I also hiked up to the top of Waynapicchu, which is the tall mountain in all the pictures of Machu Picchu.  This is a really dangerous hike and people have fallen off the cliff and died hiking this mountain.  (We did not know this at the time.)  We were on the way up and a man had fallen at the very top and was coming down the mountain on a stretcher.  It was so scary!  He was still breathing so I hope he was o.k.  It was definitely the scariest hike I have done, but the view from the top was absolutely breath-taking.

I'm so thankful I was able to have this experience with my Dad and Katie!!  Miss you guys already!!
